When I started Feral Fern Boudoir, I wanted to create a space where people could feel seen and celebrated for who they are. Over time, I’ve learned that self-love and empowerment look different for everyone. The journey to embracing yourself can feel complicated—especially in a world that insists you should love every inch of yourself, all the time.
If self-love feels out of reach right now, I want you to know that it’s okay. Body neutrality might be a gentler, more accessible step forward.
What Is Body Neutrality?
Body neutrality is about accepting your body for what it is without pressure to love or hate it. It shifts the focus from how your body looks to what it does and how it carries you through life. Instead of forcing yourself to feel positive about your body every day, it’s okay to just acknowledge it and move on.
For me, this perspective feels freeing. It’s a reminder that your worth isn’t tied to your appearance. You don’t have to love your body every second of the day to still care for and appreciate it.
Why Body Neutrality Matters
I’ve seen how exhausting it can be to feel like you’re falling short of the self-love ideal. Body neutrality gives you permission to step off that treadmill. It’s not about achieving some new standard—it’s about letting your body simply *be*.
This approach can be especially powerful if you’ve spent years battling body image, diet culture, or unrealistic societal expectations. Body neutrality is a way to reclaim your energy and redirect it toward what matters most—your relationships, passions, and life experiences.
How Boudoir Photography Aligns with Body Neutrality
When you come into my studio, the goal isn’t to create a “perfect” image. It’s about capturing you as you are—real, raw, and authentic. I focus on the moody, intimate tones that reflect the complexity of your story because I want you to see yourself in a new way, free of judgment or pressure.
Some clients come to me wanting to celebrate their bodies through self-love. Others simply want to feel present and comfortable in their skin. Both are valid. Wherever you are on your journey, I’m here to hold space for you.
Steps to Embrace Body Neutrality
Here are a few things I’ve found helpful in embracing body neutrality:
1. Shift Your Focus:
Try to appreciate your body for what it does, not how it looks. Notice the small ways it supports you—through walking, laughing, hugging, or resting.
2. Curate Your Environment:
Surround yourself with people, media, and messages that prioritize kindness and respect for all bodies.
3. Engage in Self-Care:
Take care of your body as an act of respect, not because you’re trying to change it.
4. Be Patient:
Like any relationship, your connection to your body takes time. Let yourself grow at your own pace.
Your Body, Your Story
Your body is just one part of your story, and it deserves to be honored without judgment. You don’t need to love it or even like it every day. Neutrality can be a powerful step forward—and from there, liberation might feel closer than you think.
